Committee Changes
Devon Haines is the Parent Representative on the Executive Committee and replaces Garry Nash as Junior Co-ordinator. David has two children in the Junior section and will be keen to promote it's growth. David will be around most Thursday Nights at Junior training and will become the first contact for parents on the night taking over that role from Chris Odgers.
Garry Nash continues as coach of the Junior Girls.
Andy Ashenhurst has returned to the committee. He served as EDHC Secretary for many years and became League Secretary. His administrative experience and Hockey knowledge will be a great bonus for the club, welcome back Andy.

If you read this and can think of someone we should invite pass it on and let Andy know, his email is on the electronic Catch-Up Invite attached below.
Andy will be sending out personalised invitations but here;

Come-along-and-try-session............ back to Hockey Tasters for Parents
If you are a Parent of one of our members and have fancied having a go at hockey as a beginner, or as a returner, on a Thursday night in the next few weeks we hope to use some space in the 6-7 Junior slot for a come-along-and-try-session. You will need suitable footware, shin pads (advised) and sticks available to borrow. Details to follow, but contact Chris at [email protected] if you think you might be interested, dads and mums welcome.
What Hockey Costs
Finances and Pitch Costs
The company that rents us the pitches suddenly informed us before Christmas that VAT will be applied to all booking from January 1st, this added £300 plus to our anticipated half year expenditure. At the moment the club has over £1000 owed of subs and match fees, I thought you might be interested in how much a home game of hockey now costs.
ACTIVITY FOR HOME GAME | COST |
Pitch Hire of 90 minutes | £92 |
Teas at Jubilee | £30 |
Umpires if appointed league umpires, £10 less if our own | £30 |
Incidentals, drinks for umpires, balls, | £5 |
TOTAL | £157 |
Average Match fee taken per game | £85 |
Shortfall on each home game | £72 |
The shortfall is of offset by away games, when we are not travelling to Cornwall!!
There are of course other substantial costs : affiliation fees to EH, Devon Hockey and Verde SW Hockey league which are paid from membership subscriptions.
Our anticipated Expenditure this year is approximately £16500 and if we collect all the fees owed our Approximate Income will be £17500...so not much of a contingency.
Everybody knows that the game you play on a Saturday isn't free so thank you to all those who conscientiously hand over their match fees every Saturday.
Those that don't and somehow forget to have money with them not only drive up potential costs for those that do but create much work, chasing of money owed, for club volunteers.
Here are the costs for a Thursday full pitch slot of an hour
Activity Junior Training
Junior Training 6 to 7 pm per session | £61.80 |
Balls, equipment | £5 |
Coaching materials | £2 |
Cost per session | £68.80 |
Subs collected at a sesional rate | £63.63 |
Shortfall per session | £5.17 |
The above is based on our present Junior numbers of 30, anything less than that number will increase the shortfall. We look to subsidise Junior costs by the EASYFUNDRAISING website. So all club members and their families if you haven't yet done so join up here
Monies raised will be used to encourage and promote the Junior Section.
Activity Senior Training
SeniorTraining 7 to 8 pm per session | £61.80 |
Balls, equipment | £5 |
Coaching materials | £2 |
Cost per session | £68.80 |
So to work out what your training costs the club divide the £68.80 by the number of members present at the session. If only10 turn up that costs the club nearly £7 for every member. So please make use of this free facility built into your subscription.
Kit and Bobble Hats
Proserve tell us that Adult and Junior Yellow shirts are now back in stock. We are replacing the tracksuit with two styles of soft shell training top with an embroidered badge, they should be available in the next few weeks. The Club has ordered an EDHC themed bobble hat if you would like one contact Lewes Hayes who has a few spare.
